This is part of a series for Black Creek Cheese that I'm working on. We developed a cooperation because we both enjoy strong flavors and assertive cheeses. If you missed any of my earlier postings, you can see a list of all the cheesy foods I've created so far by clicking here.
The Big Game is less than two weeks away, and whether you're hosting a few guests or watching it alone, you'll want to make sure your game day food is on point.
Sure, you may take the typical route and offer the same things everyone else does, like wings and nachos, but if you truly want to stand out, you'll want to create a batch of these Macaroni and Cheese Egg Rolls as well!
The macaroni and cheese recipe is quite simple. You don't need a lot of additives or seasonings since Black Creek Extra Sharp Cheddar has a delicious taste. Aside from the noodles, all you need is butter, flour, milk, and three-year-aged Black Creek Extra Sharp Cheddar.
Their cheese is prepared in the same time-honored practices that have been in use for over a century, utilizing farm fresh milk from America's Dairyland to craft a rich, savory cheese under the watchful eyes of Wisconsin Certified Master Cheesemakers. Essentially, what I'm saying is that Black Creek Cheese did all the work, so you can put in minimum effort and it will still turn out fantastic.
If you've never made homemade egg rolls before, the recipe description below may be a little perplexing at first, but if you have any questions, simply watch the video. They're actually quite simple to construct, and you'll be an expert in no time!
To make things even easier, you may prepare the macaroni and cheese and roll up the egg rolls earlier in the day, or even the day before, and then simply chill them until ready to cook. Then, on game day, all you need to do is heat up some oil in a deep fryer or heavy pan and you'll have a batch of these Macaroni and Cheese Egg Rolls ready in less than 10 minutes.
The recipe makes ten egg rolls, which should be enough for at least a few people, but if I'm being really honest, you'll find it difficult to stop eating them as soon as you take your first taste, so keep that in mind and plan accordingly....
Macaroni and Cheese Egg Rolls Recipe
Ingredients
- 7 ounces of shredded, 3-year-old Black Creek Extra Sharp Cheddar
- 2 quarts oil for frying
- 8 ounces macaroni noodles
- 3 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons flour
- 1 1/2 cups milk
- 10 egg roll wrappers
- BBQ sauce or your preferred dipping sauce
Instructions
- Follow the package's instructions for cooking pasta.
- Melt butter in a pan over medium heat, then whisk in flour. Add milk and turn down the heat. Add cheese and stir slowly until it melts.
- After adding the cheese sauce to the cooked pasta, mix everything together.
- .Heat oil in deep fryer or heavy skillet to 375°F.
- Place an egg roll wrapper on the table with one of the edges facing you.
- Put about 1/4 cup of macaroni and cheese in the middle of the egg roll wrapper, then moisten the edges with your fingertips. When you roll the egg roll, this will aid in its stability.
- Next, fold the corner that is facing you up over the filling before tucking the ends in and rolling the egg roll up. Do the same with the remaining egg rolls.
- Cook egg rolls for 3 minutes, or until golden brown, in batches.
- Drain on paper towels before serving with BBQ sauce or any dipping sauce of your choice.
